Glen Eira residents live healthier

Official data shows Glen Eira residents live healthier among Victoria yet obesity is still what they should pay attention to.

Residents in Glen Eira enjoy longer health expectancy than the statewide average, despite their DALYs are comparatively lower.

According to Victorian Department of Health, Glen Eira slightly surpasses Victoria in average life expectancy of both genders, ranking eight among all Victorian districts.

Disability-adjusted life year (DALY) refers to a measure of overall disease burden, expressed as the cumulative number of years lost due to ill-health, disability or early death. The data shows the overall DALY of Glen Eira residence is lower than the statewide average.

Figure II shows that the measures of several medical conditions of Glen Eira and Victoria.

14.9 per cent Glen Eira residents are currently smoking, while 19.1 per cent of Victorians have the habit of smoking.

The closest gap is the percentage reported in poor health. In Glen Eira, there are 17.1 per cent residents in a poor health condition, next to Victoria’s 18.3 per cent.

However, over half male residents (53.7 per cent) in Glen Eira are overweight. Obesity turns out to be the most serious concerns Glen Eira residents should pay attention to, although the percentages are still lower than the statewide average.
